What is required if I would like to provide daycare services to more than 15 children?
a. What type of daycare facilities are available in Quispamsis? There are several licensed daycare facilities in the community,which are listed under Day Care Centres & Nurseries in the yellow pages of the local telephone book. The YM-YWCA provides a licensed preschool, playschool and after school program at the Recreation Centre. Day camps are also offered at the Recreation Centre during March Break and during summer holidays. For more information contact, the Community Services Department at 849-5773.
b. Can I provide child care services in my own home, and if so, how many children am I permitted to look after? Day care services can be provided to a maximum of 5 children in a Residential, (R1) zone, and a Rural (RU) Zone as a secondary use subject to the provisions under the Home Occupation requirements, (Section 6.K of the Town’s Zoning Bylaw No.038), and the provisions of the Family Services Act of New Brunswick http://www.gnb.ca/0062/acts/acts-e.asp.
c. If I wish to provide daycare services to more than 5 children, what is required? You are permitted to provide daycare services to more than 5 children but not more than 15 children in a Residential or Rural Zone but you must apply to the Town’s Planning Advisory Committee for approval to operate the daycare as a discretionary use. The PAC, as part of the approval process, shall impose certain terms and conditions to protect properties within the particular zone and to protect the health, safety and welfare of the general public.
d. What is required if I would like to provide daycare services to more than 15 children? A daycare facility that provides services to more than 15 children shall be permitted in a Commercial or an Institutional Zone, and is subject to the operator entering into an agreement with the Town which ensures compliance with terms and conditions set by the Town’s Planning Advisory Committee as well as the provisions of the Family Services Act of New Brunswick.
