Most Livable Community in Atlantic Canada
The Globe and Mail has ranked Quispamsis among Canada’s most livable communities. For many residents, that recognition may feel less like a surprise than a confirmation of what they already know: life in Quispamsis is shaped by trails and water, recreation and shared spaces, and a strong sense that what matters is close at hand.
Quispamsis topped the list as the No. 1 most livable community in Atlantic Canada on The Globe and Mail’s 2026 Canada's Most Livable Cities rankings (paywall). The recognition extended well beyond a single placement. Quispamsis placed No. 8 overall in Canada. No other community in Atlantic Canada ranked in the top 30.
It also ranked Quispamsis No. 2 for retirement, No. 2 for midlife transition, No. 8 for newcomers, and No. 15 for young professionals, a strong showing across very different stages of life.
The Globe and Mail 2026 Canada's Most Livable Cities (Paywall) Most Livable Cities Ranking Methodology (Paywall)
The rankings are based on a data model (paywall) that assessed 454 communities with populations over 10,000, using 58 variables across 10 categories: economy, housing, demographics, health care, safety, education, community, amenities, transportation and climate. The Globe also created separate lists for different life stages, weighting categories differently based on what people tend to value most at those stages. That helps explain why Quispamsis’s results are so notable: the town did not appear in just one niche. It showed up across multiple ways of living.
In Quispamsis, that translates into something residents can recognize without looking at a scorecard: the qplex, the trail network, the rivers and natural setting, Arts and Culture Park, community events, and the shared amenities that shape everyday life. What emerges is not one defining feature, but a pattern: nature, movement, participation, and a sense of peace of mind working together.
The Town’s own planning documents reflect much the same reality. Quispamsis’s Community Strategic Plan calls the community “a vibrant, active community surrounded by natural beauty,” with quality of life driven by “exceptional services, amenities, and programs.” Its Recreation Master Plan goes further, describing recreation as a source of healthy habits, social connection, belonging, family well-being, inclusivity, and a strong sense of place. It also describes Quispamsis as a close-knit, full-service town where residents enjoy access to quality facilities and natural environments.
That helps explain why the recognition lands across life stages. For retirees, Quispamsis offers community, activity and ease. For people in midlife transition, it offers stability and room to reset. For newcomers and young professionals, it offers a place that is connected, well-served and increasingly visible, while staying close to regional opportunity without giving up the character of a smaller town. Even in the Globe’s overall profile, one of the clearest signals was community: 82 per cent of residents reported a strong sense of belonging to their local community.
Taken together, the rankings give national shape to what residents already experience more personally: Quispamsis is a place where people can stay active, take part, feel connected, and build a good life close to nature and to one another. For those who live here, that may be the most meaningful part of the recognition.
