Forest Fire Mitigation Update - Aug. 14
Quispamsis continues to help mitigate the risk of forest fires in our community as hot, dry conditions persist.
Works crews have paused grass cutting operations until the risk of fire decreases.
Our Parks staff have enhanced safety while maintaining parks and trails by having a water supply vehicle on hand in case of emergencies.
Hammond River Park and the Millennium Cycle Bike Park remain closed. All other parks and trails are open although residents are encouraged to limit their use of them.
As a fire ban remains in place across the province, fire pits have been removed temporarily from Meenan’s Cove Park. Please do not bring barbeques to our parks. Signage is in place at various locations to remind park users that fires and barbequing are prohibited.
Our administrative staff have fielded questions about the ongoing construction of new homes in our community. These developers are on private property and are not subject to forest fire mitigation restrictions in place for Crown land and town property, however, where possible, town staff will remind private developers about the current risk levels and request they self monitor and use best practices should they choose to work in their own wooded areas adjacent to established town development. Individual homeowners will not be contacted about any construction activity on their private property.
Residents are asked to conserve water by not washing cars, watering lawns, filling swimming pools and more. For those using wells, please monitor your water level to ensure the safety of your water supply.
