Survey work, smoke testing on Hampton Road

Motorists can expect lane closures and traffic delays through Friday, May 16, on Hampton Road between McCarron Drive and the intersection of Campbell Drive and Pettingill Road as survey work is underway in the area.

This critical work is being conducted as part of long-term improvements planned for Hampton Road.

Contractors are using closed-circuit television (CCTV) technology to inspect the sewer system.

Also, Biomaxx will conduct smoke testing of the sewer system in the same area on Wednesday, May 14, beginning at 3 p.m. and concluding later that day.

Smoke testing is used to identify sewer infrastructure leaks, cross-connections and damaged infrastructure. BioMaxx will systematically go up and down Hampton Road in the highlighted area pumping a special harmless, non-damaging smoke/vapour throughout the sewer system, finding and making note of every cross connection and abnormality along the way.  Smoke should not enter any houses or buildings unless there is a cross-connection. If this does occur, the smoke should dissipate within 30 seconds once a window or door is opened.

More information on the smoke testing can be found here.
